Background

Beginning in 2019, the Department of the Air Force implemented IT services at 8 Air Force installations during what is known as the Risk Reduction Effort (RRE) to gather lessons learned to prepare for IT implementation across the DAF. RRE bases include:

• Buckley SFB, Colorado
• Cannon AFB, New Mexico
• Maxwell AFB-Gunter Annex, Alabama
• Offutt AFB, Nebraska
• Hurlburt Field, Florida
• Pope Field, North Carolina
• Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska
• Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany

Wave 1 is being implemented at RRE bases first, then will be implemented across the DAF in a phased approach starting during calendar year 2024. Wave 1 includes diverse and integrated end-user devices and advanced data protection. All services are NIPR supported and SIPR will arrive at a later date.

Base Infrastructure Modernization (BIM) is an EITaaS program (formerly known as Wave 2) that seeks to overhaul and modernize the existing DAF base area network infrastructure.
